Telephone Harassment

Dealing with Harassing Telephone Calls

       Still getting unwanted telephone calls?

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) prohibits harassing telephone calls and solicitations (even debt collection calls) to your home and cell phone.

Here are some general rules to remember:

Solicitors and debt collectors are not allowed to call you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. (local time).

Artificial voices and pre-recordings are not allowed.

The caller must provide his name, the name of the person or entity on whose behalf the call is being made, and a telephone number or address at which that person or entity may be contacted.

Unsolicited advertising faxes are prohibited.

Unless you have given a company your express consent for them to do any of these things, you may be entitled to collect damages between $500 and $1,500 for each illegal call or solicitation under the TCPA.
